DIY Gifts: Welcome to the Christmas Workshop!
What makes the wait for Santa Claus fly by? A crafting afternoon! Together with your kids, you can make beautiful DIY gifts – and build up even more excitement for the holidays. Here are a few tips for crafting fun during the festive season.

Creative and active: Why crafting is so wonderful
When scissors, paper, and craft supplies come together to create a masterpiece, children feel empowered. They can develop their motor skills, practice their language and social skills, and have a ton of fun along the way. A finished craft project is an achievement children can be truly proud of – especially when it brings a big smile to the face of whoever receives it!
Off to the woods!
Even when nature is in hibernation, you can find plenty of crafting materials during a walk in the woods. With branches and twigs, leftover nuts and chestnuts, or even moss and dried leaves, you can bring beautiful Christmas ideas to life – like garlands or a lovely door wreath. To get started with your crafting, don't forget to have crafting scissors, paints, paper, decorations, and age-appropriate craft kits on hand.

Beautiful Christmas Tree
Everyone loves Christmas decorations – especially when they have a personal touch. Shatterproof plastic Christmas ornaments are super easy to paint. Younger kids should use finger paints, while older ones can get creative with water-based acrylics. To make sure the artwork stays on the ornament, prime it with a plastic primer before your crafting afternoon and seal it with a clear coat after painting. Want to get even more creative? Try airbrush sets for easy paint application.
Festive Decorative Hangers
Yarn is a perfect crafting material. Together with cardboard, craft glue, and beads, you can transform it into lovely hanging ornaments. Cut Christmas trees or stars out of thick cardboard and glue the end of a ball of yarn onto the cardboard. Next, let the kids wrap the yarn tightly around the shape – crisscross, however they like. Secure the end of the thread with glue and decorate the unique creation with beads or other pretty little details. Thread a thin string through the top with a needle, and your decoration is ready to hang.

(Not) a tough nut to crack
A real wooden nutcracker is quite complicated to make. However, decorative nutcrackers made from toilet paper rolls are no trouble at all. All you need are empty toilet paper rolls, craft paint, paper, and glue. You can find plenty of templates and inspiration online for the traditional nutcracker look – or you can let your creativity run wild! Santa, reindeer, angels, and many other festive friends can be made in no time.
